Leeds set for £133m project
The north of England's largest city development, a £133m project for Leeds, has been submitted to planners by one of Britain's wealthiest female entrepreneurs.
City One, a 866,665sq ft mixed-use scheme on a 6.5 acre-site in the centre of the city, is the brainchild of Jan Fletcher, a Veuve Clicquot British Business Woman of the Year, who has assembled the site from an initial 1.5 acres over the last 19 years.
The plans include a 307-bed hotel, a casino, conference facilities for 1000 people, a health club and spa, restaurants and cafés, retail outlets, apartments and office blocks. 'Leeds has experienced tremendous growth in recent years,' said Fletcher. 'City One is my vision of a prestigious development worthy of being at the entrance to this vibrant city.'
Lyndsay Burns, director of NAI Gooch Webster, development consultant and letting agent of the site, says a five-star hotel group is already in discussion over the site with considerable interest from financial institutions and corporate bodies looking to relocate.
A spokesman for J F Properties said the leisure sector of the development, with 16,500sq ft of workable space, could be run by the hotel or as a stand-alone operation. The 13,000sq ft casino is to meet 'high spec' demands of the new gaming laws. Details: Lyndsay Burns ++44(0)113 288 2513/2524.
