Trade union GMB has revealed that it has held "last-ditch" talks with senior officials at Culture and Sport Glasgow (CSG) in a bid to avert industrial action on 30 April.

Around 350 GMB members are poised to walk out alongside Bectu, Unison and Unite members for a 24-hour strike, which was called in response to concerns over pay and working conditions. GMB officials said there were "no indication" the situation would be resolved in time to prevent the strike, which will affect sports events, museums and concerts across Glasgow.

According to GMB, the culture and leisure trust is looking to reduce weekly working hours from 37 to 35 and downgrade jobs, as well as ending the premium pay rate for working six public holidays. Frank Doran, the GMB officer for members at CSG, said: "This situation in the culture and sports arm of Glasgow City Council is a wash up from the ideas of ex council leader Stephen Purcell which is ending badly for 1,400 public sector workers who were promised that their terms and conditions would be safeguarded."
