The Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) has announced that a new National Curling Academy will be built in Kinross in Scotland.

Kinross Curling Trust held off competition from Gogar Park Curling Club to host the new site, featuring a six-sheet curling rink, as well as supporting facilities including offices, meeting rooms and a museum. Funding for the new academy, which is scheduled to open ahead of the 2010-11 season, is expected to come from a number of sources, including public and trust funding, loans, and donations from local curlers. RCCC will also contribute towards costs of the offices, while the RCCC Charitable Trust will help fund the museum.

Leader of the Kinross bid, Jamie Montgomery, said: "The local area has long had a strong curling tradition centred on Loch Leven, and Kinross Curling Club is believed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest club in the world. "The prospect of a state-of-the-art curling facility in Kinross, catering for both local curlers and national elite squads, furthers our aspirations to become the genuine curling centre for Scotland."
