Jowell backs GLL’s preparations for 2012
Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell has praised Greenwich Leisure’s (GLL) work in promoting local community involvement in the London 2012 Games.
The sports trust has launched a publication called Delivering inspiration for 2012 to millions of Londoners every day which sets out how it can connect local communities to the benefits and opportunities of the Olympics using its network of leisure facilities throughout the capital.
"I was delighted with the support that GLL gave the Olympic bid and I am now extremely pleased to see that GLL continues to support us in the preparations for 2012,” said Jowell.
"GLL is an important player in the provision of London’s sports and leisure facilities and as London’s leading social enterprise has an additional responsibility to encourage diverse community involvement and voluntary support for the Games. I know that they take this responsibility very seriously and I am pleased to give my support to their approach and hard work."
Peter Bundey, GLL director, said: "The most important sporting event in the lives of a generation of Londoners will be the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games – what they did, where they were, what they saw and what happened next. GLL are committed to working with the London community to deliver the Olympics and make it the best Games ever."
