A quarter of older workers in the leisure industry believe their younger colleagues teach them skills they previously did not have, according to recent research.
The study, commissioned by Jobcentre Plus, also found that working in a mixed-age workforce is important for bother older (29 per cent) and younger (66 per cent) UK workers in the leisure industry.
Chief executive of Jobcentre Plus, Lesley Strathie, said: “The research shows that having the right balance of age and skills can bring numerous benefits to establishing a complete workforce for both employers and individuals.”
The survey shows that the qualities that younger workers think their older colleagues bring is experience (88 per cent), while reliability (65 per cent) and knowledge (82 per cent) also featured highly.
Jobcentre Plus carried out the research as part of its ongoing work to offer support to older workers looking for employment. Details: www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk
