Intercontinental strengthens portfolio in the Mediterranean
Intercontinental Hotels is strengthening its portfolio in the Mediterranean with a new hotel in Cyprus.
The Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills Resort will open in the summer of 2004, in Pafos, overlooking the site of Aphrodite’s rock and the Mediterranean sea. The $38 million hotel resort will form part of a £150 million Aphrodite Hills development by Lanitis Development.
The luxury 290-room hotel will offer guests a range of facilities, including an 18-hole golf course, health spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools plus a wide range of water sports activities. The hotel will feature a number of eateries, including a Californian style brasserie, a Mediterranean restaurant and a restaurant serving Euro-Asian fusion cuisine.
Lanitis is developing the Aphrodite Hills Resort as the first integrated golf, leisure and real estate development in Paphos, Cyprus. Located on 270 hectares of land, the resort boasts a championship golf course, a spa and a tennis academy, which guests at the Intercontinental will have full access to.
The tennis academy will have eight courts, some clay, some plexipave. Tiered seating over the courts will mean that competitions at the resort are possible. The number of courts will grow as the resort develops.
The traditionally decorated thermae spa, called Aphrodite Hills Spa, will be managed by Andrew Gibson and use a mixture of Pevonia products and traditional Cypriot herbal oils and fragrances. The spa’s signature treatment, will be the Aphrodite’s bath – a traditional body cleansing treatment lasting three hours. Pevonia, which has made Aphrodite their flagship location for Pevonia in Europe, will be a partner in the spa, helping to recruit train and develop the spa’s international team, as well as providing the product range.
The resort, spa and tennis academy is due to open in April 2004.
