ICC not keen on Commonwealth inclusion
There will be no cricket at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games after the International Cricket Council (ICC) opposed including the sport in the programme of events due to scheduling issues.
The decision was made at a meeting of ICC's chief executives' committee in Cape Town, South Africa, on 7 and 8 December, featuring chief executives from the 10 Test-playing members, as well as three representatives from ICC Associate members. A meeting of the ICC Board will discuss the issue at the end of January in Perth, Australia along with matters concerning the establishment of an anti-racism code, the Future Tours Programme post-2012 and anti-doping.
ICC chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, said: "As a sport, cricket faces challenges and tensions at international level. But it also enjoys wonderful strengths. For this group it is vital that we work together for the good of the game around the world. "This workshop highlighted people's concerns and hopes for the game, and will hopefully in time help us develop a long-term response that will make our sport even stronger."
