Health and fitness guidance for mental illness launched

The government has launched guidance which is intended to improve the physical fitness of people with mental illness.
The guidance will help local commissioners to design services to improve the wellbeing of mental health patients.
According to government research, people with severe mental illness have very low levels of physical health and are more likely to develop diseases such as coronary heart disease and diabetes.
An additional £7m has been made available to employ ‘wellbeing nurses’ to work in partnership with health trainers, mental health staff and GPs to deliver health checks, blood tests and advice.
