Sports trust Halo Leisure has been named as a flagship business by Social Enterprise West Midlands.

The organisation has selected Herefordshire-based Halo Leisure as one of five companies to represent the region in a two-year initiative promoting examples of inspiring social enterprises; business models which use commercial experience to achieve a social mission.

Chief Executive of Halo Leisure, Jon Argent, said: "We are a vibrant and innovative social enterprise delivering a wide range of leisure activities to a broad community base.

"We are delighted to have been chosen as a flagship for Social Enterprise West Midlands and we look forward to working with social enterprises large and small and championing the value and benefits of the social enterprise model."

Network Director of Social Enterprise West Midlands, Kevin Maton added: "Congratulations must go to Halo Leisure. They are an exceptional enterprise who encapsulates the fundamental principles of achieving difficult social goals through sound commercial work.

"A great deal has been achieved in this region over the last two years but if the social enterprise sector is to win the business it needs to grow, we need more examples that have real meaning to people in the West Midlands. We have ambitious goals and believe that Halo Leisure has the potential to become a well-known name that can join the likes of The Big Issue and Fifteen as an example of social enterprise."

The other four flagship organisations selected are Fordhall Community Land Initiative, England's first community owned farm promoting sustainable farming and healthy living; PM Training, which offers more than 800 training and employment opportunities every year to tackle youth unemployment; Marches Energy Agency, one of the UK's leading sustainable energy and climate change social enterprises and Gateway Family Services, one of the first social enterprises to be borne out of a primary care trust, delivering innovative community health services.
