Green light for NSW aquatic centre plans
The Sydney West Joint Regional Planning Panel has approved plans for a new AU$12.9m (£8.4m) leisure complex in West Pymble, New South Wales, Australia.
Ku-ring-gai Council mayor Ian Cross said the decision to back the new Indoor Aquatic and Leisure Centre was a "major milestone" in efforts to secure a new facility for the region. To be built on the site of an existing outdoor 50m pool, the new complex will include a 25m indoor swimming pool; a toddlers' pool; a gym; and multi-purpose group fitness rooms.
Work is due to start in early 2012 and take around 12 months, with funding to come from a combination of general revenue, Section 94 contributions and land disposal receipts. Cross said: "There is no doubt that this will be a valued and well patronised community facility, ending the need for residents to leave Ku-ring-gai to swim in the colder months."
