Funding package earmarked for Dumfries theatre
A funding package of £315,000 has been earmarked by Dumfries and Galloway Council to help save the Dumfries Theatre Royal.
The funding, which will go for final approval on 7 December, will be put towards repair work that will extend the venue's life by 10 years.
Alan Henry, master of the theatre's Guild of Players, told Leisure Opportunities: "After [the approval] we hope to be able to raise additional funding from a number of other sources so that over the next few years we can upgrade the building and facilities to modern standard but retain its historical atmosphere."
The museum originally opened in 1792 and is the oldest surviving provincial theatre in Scotland.
