Free fitness sessions for walkers
Walkers can exercise for free under a scheme launched jointly by Walkabout Wrexham and Wrexham County Borough Council.
Walkabout Wrexham – which is part of a nationwide Walking the Way to Health scheme managed by Groundwork Wrexham & Flintshire – run organised walks every day in different locations around Wrexham.
Led by trained volunteer walk leaders, they are designed to introduce sedentary people to physical activity and last about an hour.
Participants who complete four walks will qualify for free fitness sessions at one of six participating leisure centres – Waterworld, Chirk, Darland, Gwyn Evans, Ruabon or Plas Madoc.
The sessions range from free swimming and exercise classes to badminton and table tennis.
The programme follows the success of a recent campaign through which walkers received a £5 voucher for fruit and vegetables after completing four walks.
