Food comes first for Canadians
Health Canada has overhauled the Canada Food Guide to include more culturally diverse foods, recommendations tailored to specific groups – such as children, teens, women, men and the elderly – and exercise guidelines.
The first update of the guide for nearly 15 years comes following four years of consultations with more than 7,000 dieticians, nutritionists, scientists, doctors and public health experts.
Access to the guide is now available online to enable people to personalise their food guide.
As well as recommending daily activities such as walking to the bus stop, the guide also suggests people exercise for 30 to 60 minutes day.
