FCS to support community initiatives
Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) has confirmed that it will provide more opportunities for communities looking to manage woodlands for local benefit.
The agency will enhance the National Forest Land Scheme to help encourage groups to lease areas of woodland that would also include rights to operate sites for forestry purposes. One of the new measures will also provide community groups with an 18-month period in which to prepare plans for the sites, before being required to provide the necessary capital.
Scottish environment minister Roseanna Cunningham said: "We have listened to our key community partners and their wish to develop new ways of managing woodlands for rural development."
