Extreme sports launches skatepark
X-Site skatepark – a £1.2m extreme sports centre – is due to open in Skegness, UK in April.
Operated by the Lincolnshire Extreme Sports Association (LESA), the new skatepark at Seaview Pullover will feature BMX-ing, in-line skating, skateboarding, trampolining, mountain biking and beach volleyball, as well as a range of water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, kiting, power kiting and kite surfing. It is also expected to host major competitions and sponsored events throughout the year.
The centre is aimed at people from all backgrounds and of all abilities. It will offer 60 childcare places for 10- to 15-year-old local children on a flexible, open-access basis.
Paul Johnson, community development officer of LESA, said: “This project is an excellent example of grassroots regeneration. The coast is a very difficult place to live, especially for young people. This is their project and it will have a major economic impact on the area.”
Satellite TV’s Extreme Channel has expressed an interest in screening a documentary about X-Site from start to finish.
The skatepark will officially launch on 22 April, coinciding with St George’s Day. Details: www.xsiteskatepark.co.uk
