Erskine appointed manager of new Darton Community Sports Centre
Ronnie Erskine, previously operations manager at the Barnsley Premier Leisure managed Dearneside Leisure Centre, have been appointed Community Sports Development Manager at the sports trust's newest facility, Darton Community Sports Centre.
Darton Community Sports Centre, which is adjacent to and run in partnership with, Darton High School, houses a brand new 30-station gym and fitness suite including cardiovascular and weight training equipment, a fully equipped dance studio, running, rowing and stepping machines and a stretch area. There is also an Astroturf pitch, a sports hall and gymnastics hall.
As part of helping local people to become more active and to tackle the rise in obesity, the centre is now open to the public every evening from 4pm and between 10am and 4pm on weekends. James Starbuck, chief executive of Barnsley Premier Leisure, said: "Ronnie is a valuable member of staff who has committed himself to encouraging the local community to adapt their lifestyle and become healthier and fitter.
"Barnsley has one of the highest obesity rates in the country and we are hoping that venues such as this, which are affordable and have excellent facilities, will attract more local people and really make a difference."
