Chair of Dundee United Football Club (DUFC), Eddie Thompson, has died following a long battle against prostate cancer.
Thompson had been in the position for six years, having become DUFC's major shareholder in September 2002.
During Thompson's tenure as chair, the club turned its losses of £2.7m in 2003 into an operating profit in June this year. He also helped in the establishment of ArabTRUST, DUFC's supporters' trust, which is currently the second-largest stakeholder in the club.
As his health deteriorated in recent months, his son Stephen took over day-to-day responsibilities as the club's chief executive.
Earlier this year, the club named one of the stands at its Tannadice ground after Thompson following requests from supporters.
