David Stalker is the new chair of UK Active
David Stalker has been announced as the new chair of UK Active today (6 October) and Melinda Nicci has joined the board of directors as the new digital lead.
With more than 35 years of industry experience, Stalker is a well-known leader. He is currently president of EuropeActive, interim executive chair of Kuwait Active and has board and advisory positions with a number of other companies including Alliance Leisure, Myzone, Future Practice, Soul Padel, Leisure Labs, Superyacht Fitness, Active IQ and Lampton Leisure.
This is a homecoming for Stalker, who was CEO of UK Active from 2008 until 2015. Previous experience also includes being chair of CIMSPA and CEO of Myzone.
His appointment is the result of a rigorous recruitment process led by the Nominations Committee, which attracted applicants with strong experience from a range of industries.
Stalker joins for a three-year term, taking over from Katy Cox, who became interim chair following the departure of Mike Farrar in February and will now resume her position as treasurer of the board.
Stalker says: “It is an honour to be appointed chair of UK Active. Having previously served as CEO, it has been hugely rewarding to witness both the growth of the organisation and the sector we serve, and I am looking forward to playing my part in continuing this growth.
“Throughout my career I have championed the recognition of physical activity as a cornerstone of health and wellbeing, and I will continue to advocate for its role in improving the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our communities.”
Nicci brings specialist knowledge and experience of health technology and AI. She has extensive experience in executive positions across the health, fitness and wellness industries, having worked for more than 35 years with brands ranging from Virgin Active and LA Fitness, to Phillips and the Body Collective Group (Baby2Body) which she founded in 2015.
She says: “I am excited to help our sector capitalise on the opportunities presented by advances in technology and drive the positive change we can bring to communities by working together.”
Huw Edwards, CEO of UK Active, welcomed them both: “David has committed himself to the sector’s development throughout his career and as a leading advocate of UK Active’s work, will help us continue to grow. Melinda’s digital expertise and innovative approach will support us to stay ahead in this vital area.”
