DGC to mull South Scotland tourism venture
Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC) is to mull whether to sign up to a joint venture with VisitScotland and Scottish Borders Council to promote tourism in South Scotland.
Members of the council's planning, housing and environment committee are being asked to approve its participation in the scheme, as well as providing £426,000 worth of funding. A report to go before the committee on 14 June said that the three-year project will generate an additional £52.5m in visitor revenue, as well as creating more than 20 new jobs.
Tourism is already worth an estimated £269m to the South Scotland region and the scheme will see a total of £3m invested with the help of European Union funding.
