Council plans Cheshunt leisure investment
Grundy Park Leisure Centre in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, is to benefit from up to £2.5m of investment under plans announced by Broxbourne Borough Council (BBC).
The local authority said that it was proposing "large-scale investment" at leisure facilities such as Grundy Park, rather than look to reopen Hoddesdon's open air swimming pool. Hoddesdon Open Air Pool shut in 2008 and councillors have decided that the expenditure required needed to bring the facility up to a "reasonable" standard was not justified.
The Spinning Wheel site on which the pool operated is set aside as open space, but is to be demolished by BBC to reduce any risks of leaving the properties empty. BBC leader Paul Mason said: "Members of the council have indicated that they want to give much more priority to investment in the Council's leisure and community facilities over the next few years.
"We plan to start this process with an overhaul of the Grundy Park Leisure Centre of up to £2.5m. Investments are also planned at Broxbourne Civic Hall, Cheshunt Park Golf Course, and many other facilities."
