Consultation into Nottingham park plans
Nottingham City Council (NCC) has launched a public consultation over plans to turn the Victoria Embankment into a new riverside park as part of a wider scheme to improve flood defences.
Initial designs for the park incorporate four zones - community and sport; heritage; performance and play, which are set to include a playground, a new sports pavilion, upgraded pitches, a café and a performance area. A community garden could also be created as part of the park proposals, which will complement an Environment Agency-led scheme to construct new flood defences along the Victoria Embankment and around the war memorial.
NCC portfolio holder for leisure, culture and customers, Dave Trimble, said: "We have been working closely with the Environment Agency to ensure that the changes to the land and the new features and planting from the flood defences will also enhance the site and help fulfil the city council's ambition for the park. "The proposals are still at concept stage but we want them to be widely available, so that as many people and organisations as possible can put forward their ideas and suggestions. There will be considerably more consultation once a more detailed park masterplan has been developed."
