A comprehensive directory of more than 800 leisure facilities run by sporta leisure trusts across the country is being launched in the New Year.

The sporta directory, compiled by Leisure-net Solutions, will be the first complete overview of the group's 111 members and will form an essential resource to help the industry understand and target the cultural and leisure trust sector with relevant products and services. The directory, the result of a recent audit of all sporta members, comprises two spreadsheets that will help users extract desired data as quickly and effectively as possible.

The first spreadsheet is a breakdown of data by sporta member. Each page is dedicated to a single sporta member with contact information and the details of each of its sites, including the type of facilities on offer. The second spreadsheet offers the user a breakdown of all sites by type of facility and is set out in categories such as swimming, fitness, golf, parks, libraries and theatres. This will allow the user to search sporta members' facilities and target those relevant to the products or services they can provide.

Craig McAteer, chair of sporta said: "Despite the current economic climate, leisure trusts increased their management of public sector gyms by 44 sites between October 2007 and 2008. "This compares to an increase of just six by private management contractors. The research, by The Leisure Database Company on behalf of Sport England's Active Places website, shows that the leisure trust market, laid out in detail in the new sporta directory, will be a valuable source of prospective clients for suppliers."
