Celtic Crusaders Rugby League Football Club (CCRLFC) has secured an agreement to use the Rodney Parade stadium in Newport as its home ground for at least the next two years.

The Bridgend-based club was recently warned by the Rugby Football League (RFL) that its Super League status would be at risk if it failed to sufficiently advance plans to provide new or improved stadium facilities by 2011. CCRLFC will play its last fixture at its Brewery Field home in Bridgend on 5 September after securing a deal that will see the club play at least 10 fixtures in Newport over a two-year period, with the option to extend the agreement. The club also plans to host fixtures in Wrexham and central or west Wales.

Mike Turner, CCRLFC chief executive, said: "Given Newport's location, hopefully we'll be able to persuade people to come from over the Severn Bridge as well as in Wales as we're the closest Super League team to a lot of people in the South West. "Hopefully we can retain the fans who have supported the club from day one too. We are talking to Veolia Transport to arrange low price transport direct from Bridgend to Newport and back on matchdays."

CCRLFC is planning to build a new purpose-built, 15,000-seat stadium in Bridgend as part of the £40m Island Farm Sporting Village.
