Carlisle United players to unveil new Morton School gym
Carlisle Leisure is set to officially unveil a new fitness centre at Morton School on 10 January, with special guests including players from Carlisle United FC and manager Neil McDonald.
The £200,000 facility, a full refurbishment of the existing school gymnasium, has been created through a joint initiative between Carlisle Leisure, the former Carlisle and District and Eden Valley Primary Care Trusts and Morton School.
It was funded with £100,000 from Carlisle Leisure and £100,000 from the Cumbria Primary Care Trust and features 40 fitness stations and a studio for classes.
The gym complements the existing Morton Pool which was reopened in March 2005 thanks to a partnership between Carlisle Leisure, Morton School and Cumbria County Council.
Jim Douglas, managing director of Carlisle Leisure, said: ““We are delighted to have been able to further develop the leisure facilities available to the local community here at Morton.
“We hope to welcome as many people as possible to the new fitness centre and our staff will ensure that everybody regardless of age or previous experience will get the most out of this facility.”
Jane Muller of Cumbria Primary Care Trust added: “This is great news for the health of students and local people that the centre is now open.
“People in Morton now have a fantastic range of exercise facilities on their doorstep and the fact that the centre is opening in January means it provides a particularly good opportunity for people to get fit and healthy in the New Year.”
An open day is being held on Saturday 13 January 2006 where local residents can come along and see for themselves what the facility has to offer. There will be equipment demonstrations and introductions to a selection of Exercise to Music classes that will be a regular feature at the centre.
