Caborn announces his support for ISPAL
Sports minister Richard Caborn has written to the Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure (ISPAL) to offer his support to the newly launched professional body.
He said that the active sports and leisure sector is making great strides towards the government’s skills and improvement agendas and that the new institute is a “major player in that momentum”.
“In the 21st century, not only do we need to keep up with the challenges facing us, we also need to stay ahead of them,” he said. “And that includes changing the way that we have operated historically.”
“If we are to prove that the sector can address the government’s agendas across the UK, and on what it can do for others, be it tackling the obesity crisis in health, greater social inclusion in our communities and of course producing world-class talent for our 2012 athletes and beyond – then it needs to be fit for purpose and ready to deliver.
“ISPAL will play a huge role towards achieving just that. By providing leadership and focus on the development of professionals, it can help to ensure that our sector’s industries are equipped better than ever, through capacity-building, higher skills levels and more efficient delivery of services.
“I would whole-heartedly like to thank everyone involved in the creation of the institute – to NASD and ILAM, Carole Hassan and her team, Sport England, and all the other key partners in making the new body happen. I am delighted to see that their hard and tireless work towards this has paid off.
“I send my continued and earnest support for the new institute in helping to shape and set out our sector’s landscape and vision, both now and beyond.”
