Art exhibitions to unveil science in the Peaks

A touring art exhibition will do the rounds at the Peak District National Park (PDNP) this year, aiming to emphasise the importance of the scientific research taking place at the park.
The Science Meets the Eye exhibition will showcase entries from a competition ran by the Moors for the Future campaign, and will visit several PDNP visitor centres and other venues during 2008.
Dan Boys, spokesperson for Moors for the future, said: “Collecting scientific data might not at first sound that interesting to the general public.
But the images that you can see in the exhibition really make you take a fresh look at the array of top scientific research that is taking place.“
The first site to host the exhibition is the Bakewell visitor information centre, from where it will travel to the Moorland Centre in Edale.
Launched in 2002, Moors for the Future is a £4.7m, lottery-funded project which aims to restore and preserve the PDNP.
In December, the government announced it is increasing its funding of PDNP over the next three years from £7.92m in 2007 to £8.7m in 2011.
