Application submitted for 135-room hotel in Liverpool

A planning application to build a 36-storey mixed-use tower, including a 135-room hotel, in Liverpool has been submitted to the city council.
The Mersey Property Company – a newly formed firm – hired RMJM architects to design the building on Princes Dock, which is set to be the tallest in Liverpool.
The development will also include residential apartments and offices, as well as car parking for 330 vehicles. Central to the design is a semi-enclosed plaza with cafés and seating areas.
A spokesperson for the Mersey Property Company said: “This is an important development for Liverpool and will enhance the business district and waterfront environs of the city greatly. We aim to deliver an iconic, high quality development for the city’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
“We are conscious of the heritage that surrounds the site and have been committed to extensive and thorough consultation with all the main parties.”
The company has consulted with Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Vision, English Heritage and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).
Planning permission is expected by October this year and construction will begin immediately. Details: www.rmjm.com
