ASB centre to open in Wellington
A new NZ$47.5m (£24m, 27m euro) Sports centre will be open in Wellington, New Zealand tomorrow (27 August 2012).
Mayor of Wellington, Celia Wade-Brown, has announced that ASB Bank has entered into a 10-year agreement for naming rights of the new centre, where the bank will pay NZ$250,000 (£128.000, 144.461 euro) every year.
The ASB Sports centre is equivalent in size to 12 full-size netball courts. It includes retractable seating for up to 2,200 spectators, a café, locker rooms, offices, and meeting rooms available for hire.
The centre will be a venue for a large variety of indoor sports, community recreation and school programmes. It will be able to host local, regional and national sports tournaments.
The Nez Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has funded the fit-out for the centre whereas Recreation New Zealand has provided the Performance Sports Hub.
Wade-Brown, said: "It will provide our city with a much needed quality training and playing indoor community facility, and contribute significantly to our aim of getting "more people, more active, more often."
