The Havant Museum and the Havant Arts Centre in Hampshire are set to merge and become the new Arts & Heritage Centre (HAC) following a refurbishment project.
The integrated facility, which will open in September, will have a new single entry point and will include the opening up of the ground floor as well as the upgrade of the museum's existing displays.
The aim is to increase capacity and improve facilities to offer a high quality performance and exhibition programme and to encourage greater participation by the community and, in particular, young people.
The project is being led and jointly funded by the Hampshire County Council and the Havant Borough Council.
The Havant Arts Centre Company (HACC) will operate the facility under a new six-year contract due to begin on 1 April. Under the new lease's terms, HACC will be able to sublet the first floor of the museum to two independent art organisations.
The Friends of Havant Museum and Music Fusion are partners in the project and are assisting with fundraising and the development of the plans.
