SnowDome in Tamworth is one of the UK’s most distinctive leisure destinations. Since opening in 1994 as the nation’s first full-sized indoor ski slope, it has built a reputation as a multi-activity leisure venue with a growing focus on health, fitness and wellbeing.
Central to the offer is SnowDome Fitness, with a large open-plan gym, pool and spa facilities and group exercise offering.
Following a major refurbishment, a fully integrated Technogym ecosystem has transformed SnowDome Fitness into a high-capacity health club with a seamless digital member journey.
Director Isabelle Chadbourne says the ambitious project has expanded the gym floor, positioning the club as a modern fitness environment central to the SnowDome leisure offer. “We wanted to create a space that felt modern, engaging and easy to navigate for every type of member,” says Chadbourne. “Technogym supported us from the beginning with expert advice and concepts that allowed us to rethink the layout and deliver a stronger wellness experience.”
Redefining the gym experience
The redesigned 18,000sq ft gym now features clearly defined zones, including a substantial free weights area, a 60m indoor running track and a mezzanine cardio gallery.
A 3,000sq ft free weights area offers dumbbells up to 55kg, while the Pure Strength Zone has plate-loaded equipment and cable stations. The Functional Performance Zone includes Technogym Skillmill and Skillrow alongside the sprint track.
On the mezzanine, Technogym Excite cardio offers Technogym Live smart consoles, guided workout sessions and Bluetooth integration.
Data-driven member journeys
At the centre of the new fitness experience is Technogym Checkup, which gives members a comprehensive assessment of key health and performance metrics and generates AI-powered training programmes aligned to the equipment on the gym floor.
The wider Technogym ecosystem connects this data to the Technogym App, enabling users to access workouts, monitor progress and engage with their training both in and out of the gym.
“Technogym Checkup gives members a clear understanding of their starting point and where they can improve,” Chadbourne says. “It’s helped us create a more personalised and engaging fitness journey, which is having a positive impact on usage and member retention.”
A key feature of the refurbishment is a dedicated Technogym Biocircuit area, located in its own branded space. This provides a guided, AI-powered strength training experience that adapts to each user by controlling resistance, range of motion and pace. The solution is well suited to SnowDome’s high-capacity environment, enabling members to follow a structured programme with minimal setup and no staff support after induction.
It also provides a more approachable entry point into strength training for those who feel less confident in traditional free weights areas.
Independent virtual training
The addition of Technogym Visio in a quiet area of the gym allows members to access premium training content, expanding the range of activities available with expertly guided sessions.
The combination of physical design and digital integration has created a more intuitive and engaging experience, attracting a wider range of members and contributing to improved engagement across the site.
With its newly transformed Technogym-powered gym, SnowDome Fitness now plays an increasingly important role within a leisure destination that brings together sport, recreation and wellbeing under one roof.
SnowDome’s investment shows how large-scale venues can combine advanced technology, intelligent design and accessibility to create a memorable fitness offer that generates revenue as a stand-alone brand.
