Proposals for a "multi-purpose community campus" in Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, have moved forward after the local authority's area board gave the project the green light.

Under plans backed by Wiltshire Council's Wootton Basset and Cricklade Area Board, it has been proposed that a split site will be developed to incorporate a range of services.

Included in the project will be a campus building in the Lime Kiln area to offer indoor and outdoor sports space; a gym and dance studios; and a six-lane swimming pool.

Wootton Bassett Shadow Community Operations Board presented the plans in a report to the area board, with a community services campus for Boroughfields also earmarked.

Area board chair Peter Doyle said: "The proposals reflect extensive consultation with the local community and we look forward to seeing these proposals worked up into a business plan which can be presented to the council's cabinet later this year."
