£5m sports centre opens at West Lothian academy
Linlithgow Academy in West Lothian, Scotland, has opened a £5.27m sports centre.
The new complex – which will available to local sports clubs and organisations as well the academy’s pupils – will boast four badminton-sized sports halls, a fitness suite, changing rooms, a dance studio and a classroom.
A new climbing wall has been installed and the academy will now be using a range of Schelde sports equipment to reduce storage.
Fiona Hyslop, the MSP for Lothians, opened the centre. She said: “Physical education in schools plays a vital part of the school curriculum, boosting the schools’ health and fitness.
“I am so pleased that the pupil of Linlithgow Academy can enjoy first class facilities that will no doubt result in first class sporting talent.”
Stewart Harris, chief executive of sportscotland, which donated £500,000 to the project, said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to help provide good quality, accessible facilities, which we see as vital if sport is to thrive in Scotland.
“The sports facilities will help extend the sporting opportunities for both the school and the community of Linlithgow, driving an increase in sports participation as well as those with aspirations to compete at a higher level.”
