Web-based visitor service for National park
The Peak District National Park has become the first to offer an interactive website for people to share their favourite places.
MyPeakExperience gives users of the Peak District National Park the opportunity to post their own pictures and experiences, using the same technology as popular social-networking, photo or video-sharing sites.
People can upload photos, video clips, audio files, post comments or create a new page about any location within the Peak District.
They can also add places to Google Earth, online maps or Facebook. And there is an interactive map application they can add to their own website, blog or profile page.
MyPeakExperience is also accessible on mobile phones so that visitors who might want to share photography or videos while out in the Peak District can instantly upload them onto the website .
Bill Bevan, Peak Experience project officer, said: “MyPeakExperience enables anyone who likes taking photos or videos, recording sound or writing blogs to share their love and interest for the Peak District with the world. It is very simple to add your images or comments to the site.
“We have taken care of the technology to make it as simple as possible for anyone to get involved and contribute to the site.”
The website is part of the Peak Experience initiative, set up by the National Park Authority to increase visits to the region. Other schemes include podcast audio-trails and Bluetooth downloads explaining beauty spots.
Peak Experience was created by the Peak District Interpretation Partnership, which includes local authorities and businesses.
The website was designed by web company Surface Impressions.
