Volunteer development investment announced
Sport England has announced the investment of £828,000 in runningsports – the portfolio of support resources for sports volunteers.
The investment will enable volunteers across the country to have continued access to a variety of support material, led by the website – runningsports.org – which gives advice and guidance on managing volunteer sport.
The three-year funding programme will help volunteers get tips, best practice guides, volunteer case studies and answers to frequently asked questions.
In addition to the the website, the investment will allow published material to be made available, as well as workshops on key issues, including volunteer recruitment and retention, club finance, links with schools and accessibility.
Lisa Wainwright, head of national sport at Sport England said: “Volunteers who have used runningsports tell us that these resources help them improve the way they work so they get the most for their clubs and their sport.
"As preparations gather pace ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games that’s good news for sport at all levels. As well as supporting those already involved in sport, runningsports will help ensure that the 100,000 people who have registered as volunteers will have all the skills and knowledge that the Games will demand."
