Stevenage fitness facility awarded council funding
A £250,000 revamp of the Fitness @ The Leisure Centre facility at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre in Hertfordshire is set for completion next month.
The Stevenage Borough Council funded project will provide an expanded open plan gym facility, including 47 new pieces of G7 strength range equipment by Matrix Fitness System, to meet the increased number of GP referrals from local surgeries and Lister Hospital.
A new entrance to allow easy access for wheelchair users, a new changing area and a new cycle studio will also be built.
"We chose to work with Matrix because, in conjunction with Stevenage Borough Council, they offered a competitively priced, attractive and exciting solution to our requirements.
"We have a very active GP referral programme and Matrix's equipment we felt was ideal for these customers needs," said Allan Prescott, sports and fitness manager at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre.
The leisure centre currently receives 170 GP referrals each week for patients suffering from cardiac problems, strokes, back and skeletal problems, multiple sclerosis and obesity.
