Scottish hotels ahead of rest of UK

Hotels in Scotland outperformed the rest of the UK during 2005, according to the annual HotelBenchmark study by Deloitte.
According to the report, Scottish hotels generated a higher percentage increase in RevPAR (7.1 per cent) than both England (3.4 per cent) and Wales (3.2 per cent).
London’s figures were hit by the July terrorist attacks and average RevPAR at hotels in the capital flatlined, managing just a 1.9 per cent rise.
Scottish cities fared better and notable increases in RevPAR were recorded in Aberdeen (a rise of 17.5 per cent) and Edinburgh (6.1 per cent).
Marvin Rust, partner at Deloitte, said: “The third quarter 2005 figures suffered as a result of the terrorist attacks, mainly driven by the the dramatic slowdown in the number of visits by overseas residents to the UK.”
