Schlitterbahn behind new Galveston waterpark
Galveston, Texas, is to get a new waterpark from Schlitterbahn.
The water leisure company is to lease 25 acres from Scholes International Airport, according to News 24 Houston.
Schlitterbahn spokesperson, Sherrie Brammall, told Attractions Management: “Galveston is a prime Texan tourist destination, with great family attractions and beaches, meaning the island already attracts people who enjoy water recreation.
“Those factors, coupled with the large population centre nearby, make Galveston Island an ideal location for Schlitterbahn-style water fun. If we can work out the details soon to obtain the proposed site, design work will begin immediately and the waterpark could be open for the 2005 season".
Schlitterbahn is already well respected for the quality of its waterparks in New Braunfels and South Padre Island. Visitors to the Galveston site can expect to see such popular NBGS attractions as Master Blaster Uphill Water Coasters, the Boogie Bahn surfing experience, as well as the company’s Transportainment™ System, which enables guests to spend even more time on rides rather than in queues.
The planned waterpark will be close to the Moody Gardens resort destination, which offers an aquarium, a Rainforest Pyramid, an IMAX theatre and a hotel complex. Details: www.schlitterbahn.com
