REPs to survey fitness professionals
As the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) launches its second annual employment survey about working within the fitness industry, statistics from its own database are already showing some interesting variables.
For example: more than a quarter of the register’s 17,500 members live in Greater London and these members, as a group, have a lower qualification base than those members living in Wales. Yorkshire, meanwhile, has the highest level of Level 1 registrations than any other region in the UK.
During the next few months it is hoped the register’s Working in Fitness 2004 survey will gather additional important information about the industry, rates of pay, regional variations and demographics.
The survey will be conducted on-line by Leisure-net Solutions using a number a websites, including www.exerciseregister.org (look for the pop-up box). The questions have been created and the results analysed by the Skillsactive research unit.
A summary of findings and industry response will be presented at the LIW/Fitpro Convention in Birmingham in September.
As well as helping both managers and employees up to keep up to date with current trends, this labour market information (LMI) also serves as important evidence to present to the government to support additional funding dedicated to raising the skills and qualifications for fitness professionals.
Ambitious targets are being set to increase the number of people who regularly exercise, and the industry needs a skilled workforce to meet these challenges. Details: www.e-focus-net.com/surveys/salary
