Orient-Express plans mountain spa retreat
Orient-Express Hotels is to create a full mountain retreat spa at the company's hotel in Lilianfels, in Australia's Blue Mountains.
Part of a A$6m (£2m) refurbishment, the five-star, 85-bedroom hotel will see its current health club transformed into a spa sporting seven treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, saunas, spas and steamrooms. There will also be four Geisha tubs, two of which will be in outside courtyards.
The existing standalone Cottage suite will be converted into a gym, the indoor pool deepened and an outdoor heated pool added.
A new fitness studio will offer classes in aerobics, yoga, Tai Chi, stretching, meditation and Pilates.
During the conversion guests will receive treatments in-room using mobile massage beds.
Work was due to begin in November this year, but a spokesperson said it has been postponed until May 2003 because it was felt better to keep the existing facilities open during the Australian summer before beginning renovations. Details: www.orient-express.com
