Next Generation opens largest club in Europe
Next Generation’s managing director Scott Lloyd has unveiled his largest health and fitness club to date with the opening of a 165,000sq ft facility in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
The £15m club – one of the largest in Europe – is housed within the original façade of a former British Aerospace flight hangar. It combines health and fitness with hotel and conference facilities and a cinema.
“We recognised the need to expand our highly successful club concept and create something totally unique and inspiring,” said Lloyd. “Our new club at Hatfield is set to revolutionise health and fitness in the UK and create new standards of sophistication and style.”
The facility can cater for up to 8,000 members and employs some 120 staff.
In addition to a 15,000sq ft gym, there is also a gym for six- to 14-year-olds, four studios, four pools, seven indoor and five outdoor tennis courts and a crèche.
An adults-only spa area includes a sauna, aromatherium, sun loungers, tanning booths and a plunge pool.
The club currently has around 1,500 members and expects to attract around 6,500.
With the recent acquisition of the Harbour Club in London, Next Generation has 13 clubs and has a further five sites under development.
