Newport resort owner slams local authority
Sir Terry Matthews, the owner of the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales, has revealed that he will no longer invest in the city after councillors rejected plans to relocate a listed farmhouse.
Plans put forward by the resort - due to host the Ryder Cup later this year - would have seen the 17th century Little Bulmore structure moved to a new site but were rejected by Newport City Council's planning committee. Officers had advised committee members to approve plans for the Grade II-listed farmhouse sited near the resort's golf course, although Sir Terry told the BBC that the decision was a "slap in the face".
