New temporary pool for Coventry
A temporary swimming pool has been installed at Centre AT7 in Coventry as part of a local authority scheme to provide free lessons to weak or non-swimmers over the age of 11-years-old.
Local primary and secondary schools will also use the pool during its stay at the centre as part of Coventry City Council's (CCC) Top Up Swimming Programme, part of the wider British Gas Pools 4 Schools Campaign. Meanwhile, others will be given the chance to sign up to a six-week, free programme of one-hour lessons on weekday evenings as part of the scheme, backed by the Coventry Health Improvement Programme.
CCC cabinet member for community services Jim O'Boyle said: "The main aim of the promotion is to get local people who either can't swim or want to improve their current ability, out into swimming facilities. "This innovative initiative with Centre AT7 allows us to break down a geographical barrier to swimming for thousands of Coventry residents and really get people excited about swimming."
