New owner for Braehead indoor ski venue
Ice Factor International has acquired SNO!zone Braehead, the operator of an indoor skiing and snowboarding venue and now former subsidiary of Capital and Regional.
Edinburgh-based MBM Commercial assisted Ice Factor International in the purchase, with the winter sports facility forming part of the Xscape Braehead complex near Glasgow.
The deal also involved extra investment by the existing investors, members of the Highland Venture Capital investment syndicate and Scottish Investment Bank's Co-investment Fund.
As part of the acquisition, Ice Factor International has secured a new 25-year lease and the owner of the building will undertake a "significant" refurbishment of the facilities.
Ice Factor International founder and managing director Jamie Smith said: "We have been seeking expansion for some time and the Xscape Braehead site is perfect.
"Our model is predicated on attracting people who've never tried winter sports before, and making it really easy for them to simply have a go."
Capital and Regional group finance director Charles Staveley added: "We are delighted to have attracted such an experienced and professional operator as Ice Factor to Xscape Braehead."
