New-look Penrith and Eden Museum opens
Eden District Council (EDC) chair Joan Raine has officially reopened Penrith and Eden Museum following a refurbishment of the Cumbrian town's attraction.
More space for temporary exhibitions and educational workshops has been provided as a result of the scheme, while improved lighting and a new audio-visual projection system have also been installed. Work has also been carried out to improve access for disabled visitors to the museum, which was first established in 1883 and relocated to its current site - the Grade II*-listed Robinson's School building - in 1985.
Eden Access Forum chair Greg Sadler said: "Often you hear the criticism that there isn't enough to do in Penrith, so it's vital that amenities like them museum are made available to all, not just for visitors and tourists, but for residents of Penrith and Cumbria."
