National Sea Life Centre features AmaZonia exhibition
By Helen Patenall
The National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham, UK, has unveiled a new exhibition called AmaZonia.
The £250,000 attraction is an extension of the tropical theme introduced at the centre last year, which invites visitors to step into the heart of a recreated jungle featuring dense foliage, the calls of exotic birds and a thick tropical mist.
AmaZonia showcases creatures such as the razor-toothed piranha, which can reduce an animal the size of a pig to a mere skeleton in minutes.
New residents also include freshwater stingrays, an electric eel and deadly poison dart frogs plus a jungle otter sanctuary.
Sea Life Centre general manager Ian Crabbe said: “AmaZonia maintains our policy of introducing a new attraction each year to continually improve our displays and provide a strong incentive for people to come back again and again.”
Operator Merlin Entertainments currently owns and operates 17 Sea Life centres worldwide, attracting more than four million visitors every year. Details: www.sealifeeurope.com
