Montreal stadium plans approved

The US$29.35m (£21m, 22.7m euro) expansion of the Percival Molson Stadium in Montreal – the home of the Montreal Allouettes American football team – has been approved.
The project will see the stadium’s capacity increased by 5,000 seats to 20,202.
Funding will come from the Quebec government (US$19.33m) and the City of Montreal (US$4m), with the remaining US$6m being underwritten by Alouettes’ owner Bob Wetenhall.
The CEO and president of the Alouettes, Larry Smith, said: “We are proud that Quebec, Montreal and the province’s thriving football community are able to count on the Quebec government and City of Montreal to come together for a great project like this.
“This project will ensure the viability of football in Quebec and the financial stability of the Alouettes for many years.”
