Leigh Sports Village to host Sport Relief Mile
The new Leigh Sports Village is set to host a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 16 March, organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and Leigh Harriers.
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust community activity officer Emma Moran said: “We’re delighted that Leigh Sports Village has been selected to host this exciting event.
“In 2006 we held a successful event at Robin Park Arena raising thousands of pounds; this year we wanted to bring it to Leigh.
“Everyone is welcome to join us no matter what your level of ability. What better way could there be of christening the new athletics track than by using it to raise money for Sport Relief.
“We would like to thank Leigh Harriers and Leigh Sports Village Company for their support with this event.”
Leigh Harriers’ Chairman Joe Galvin added: “This event is a superb way of supporting a charity and it’s something all of the family can get involved.
“It’s also the chance to run, or walk, on a first class running track. Hopefully, taking part in the Mile will inspire people to continue to keep active and get involved in athletics her in Leigh.”
A number of celebrities have signed up to take part in one of the many Sport Relief Miles taking place all over the country, including Dame Kelly Holmes, Zara Phillips, Fearne Cotton and Darren Gough.
