As part of a major investment programme at Kings Hall Leisure Centre in Hackney, the local council and Greenwich Leisure (GLL) have partnered with SHOKK to launch the borough’s first youth specific fitness facility.
The SHOKK gym uses vivid colour schemes, lighting and music to appeal specifically to eight to 15 year olds.
In addition to a range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment, Kings Hall features the Target Wall, which provides a total body workout as well as developing reaction times, flexibility, speed and co-ordination as users are encouraged to hit or kick illuminated objects.
Centre manager Jon Preston says: "The reaction to the facility by parents and children seems to be very positive, the queue of people outside the front door on the launch day is certainly representative of the buzz of interest around the centre.
“Young people seem motivated by the complete complement of equipment and training at the facility with special attention being paid to SHOKK’s new Target Wall. We have welcomed nearly 300 users through the SHOKK facility already and have secured regular daily use from a number of schools in the area.”
