HealthSpace and Natural History Museum discuss merger
By Helen Patenall
HealthSpace Cleveland in Ohio, US – one of the nation’s first life science museums providing education programmes for school children – is set to close by the end of the year owing to reduced visitor numbers and financial problems.
Museum officials are discussing a possible merger with The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which could house the HealthSpace facility following the sale of its premises to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is home to the second-oldest museum science education programme in the US and more than 65,000 students visit the museum every year.
Cleveland Museum’s executive director, Bruce Latimer, said: “We feel that there are definite benefits from a partnership with HealthSpace. They would add exciting health-related and distance-learning programming to our educational efforts and we would be able to draw upon their deep expertise on health issues in all of our exhibition, research and education efforts.” Details: www.healthspacecleveland.com
