General manager appointed to YTL-owned Gainsborough Bath Spa hotel
Martin Clubbe has been appointed general manager of the newest addition to the YTL Hotels portfolio, The Gainsborough Bath Spa.
Opening this summer, the hotel will be home to the 1,300sq m (14,000sq ft) Spa Village Bath which provides access to Bath’s natural thermal waters.
Clubbe has been a Bath resident for the last 15 years and has international experience of luxury hotels in Switzerland, France and the US.
He has previously worked for Macdonald Hotels, managing the repositioning of The Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel as a five-star property.
“I am absolutely thrilled and privileged to be given this very exciting opportunity of managing The Gainsborough Bath Spa and joining the YTL family,” he said.
Dato Mark Yeoh, executive director of YTL, believes Martin’s level of local knowledge and commitment to quality service make him the natural choice to run the hotel.
Split over two floors, Bath’s thermal waters will be pumped into three therapeutic pools of different temperatures.
Infrared and traditional saunas, a eucalyptus steamroom plus an ice fountain are all available, alongside 11 treatment rooms, secluded couples’ facilities and Asian-inspired therapies.
A blend of Malay and Thai massage called Campur-Campur is one of the treatments on offer, in addition to private yoga sessions in the thermal waters or yoga grotto.
The property consists of three historical buildings and features 99 guest rooms and suites, in addition to a restaurant led by Austrian Michelin-starred chef, Johan Lafer.
YTL recently teamed up with the utility company Wessex Water to acquire the operating contract for Thermae Bath Spathe across the street from the Gainsborough Bath Spa – for an undisclosed fee.
